Gallery Hours are Saturday 12-5 or by appointment during the run of exhibitions
SE Cooper Contemporary is a space that uses a range of anarchist epistemologies to decentralize the art world from major art centers, change the types of neighborhoods and sites in which art can be viewed and seeks to form a more communal atmosphere for participation and communication. It is intended to be restorative to the artists we work with and the community we serve, while developing discourse that is helpful to artists and experimentation.
Established in September 2021 coming out of the Delta wave of Covid-19 as a space in which artists would come and stay in the multi generational home, work, put on exhibitions, and engage in and with the community. The gallery programming is focused on solo exhibitions because we felt it was the most essential need in the arts ecology of the Pacific Northwest. The primary focus of SE Cooper Contemporary is to support the works of artists looking toward the internal spaces of our everyday lives to create work, discourse and ideas that become forms of resistance in our external world of violence, climate change, social justice, and late capitalism. SE Cooper Contemporary is not trying to engineer more clever tools for sustainability, but rather draw attention to the timeless tools for the survival of artists that without support will be slated for extinction.
